Terms of Service

Last updated: July 26, 2026

These Terms of Service govern your purchase, download, and use of DictDrop ("Software") and the website at dictdrop.com ("Site"), including the optional DictDrop Pro subscription. By purchasing, downloading, installing, subscribing to, or using the Software, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not purchase, install, subscribe to, or use the Software.

1. About the Software

DictDrop is a Windows desktop tool that transcribes speech and pastes text into any application. It is available in two editions: the Standard edition, a one-time purchase where you use your own Groq API key, and DictDrop Pro, an optional recurring subscription described in Section 2.

In the Standard edition, the Software operates locally on your machine. Audio captured by your microphone is sent directly from your computer to Groq's servers using your own Groq API key. DictDrop does not receive, store, process, or transmit your audio data at any point.

2. DictDrop Pro (Optional Subscription Plan)

DictDrop Pro is a separate, optional monthly or annual subscription. It does not replace the one-time Standard edition described in Section 1 — Standard and Pro are distinct products, and purchasing one does not entitle you to the other.

Unlike the Standard edition, DictDrop Pro does not require you to obtain or configure your own Groq API key. Audio you dictate under a Pro subscription is sent from your computer to DictDrop's own servers, which relay it to the transcription provider (currently Groq) using DictDrop's shared credentials, and return the resulting transcript to your computer. DictDrop's servers do not store or log the audio or transcript content — it is relayed and immediately discarded. DictDrop's servers do record the duration, in seconds, of each transcription request against your subscriber account, solely to enforce the fair-use limit below and for billing support.

DictDrop Pro is billed on a recurring basis (monthly at $6.99, or annually at $59.00, as selected at signup) through Polar.sh, acting as Merchant of Record. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time through your Polar customer portal (linked in your receipt email); cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and no partial refunds are issued for unused time within a period unless required by applicable law.

DictDrop Pro subscriptions include 100 hours of transcription per calendar month. DictDrop may pause or decline requests that exceed this limit until the next calendar month begins. DictDrop may suspend or terminate a Pro subscription for abuse, excessive automated use, or use that violates the transcription provider's own terms of service.

The Pro relay depends on the availability of DictDrop's servers and its transcription provider. DictDrop does not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the Pro relay and is not liable for transcription failures, delays, or interruptions beyond providing a pro-rated service credit at DictDrop's discretion for extended outages.

3. License

Upon purchasing the Software, DictDrop grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Software on computers you own or control, for personal or internal business purposes.

You may not:

  • Redistribute, sell, rent, or sublicense the Software to any third party
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software
  • Create derivative works based on the Software
  • Remove any proprietary notices or labels from the Software

4. Purchase and Refund

The Software (Standard edition) is sold at a one-time price of $69.00 USD. There are no subscription fees, renewal fees, or recurring charges for the Standard edition. Payment and delivery are handled by Polar.sh, which acts as Merchant of Record and is responsible for collecting and remitting applicable taxes.

You are entitled to a full refund within 30 days of purchase if you are not satisfied for any reason. To request a refund, email support@dictdrop.com. Refunds are processed within 1 business day of the request. DictDrop Pro subscription refunds are governed by Section 2.

5. Third-Party Services

The Standard edition requires a Groq API key that you obtain independently from Groq, Inc. (groq.com). Your use of Groq's services is governed solely by Groq's own terms of service and privacy policy. DictDrop has no control over Groq's availability, pricing, data practices, or any changes Groq makes to its services.

You are solely responsible for compliance with Groq's terms and for all API usage costs beyond Groq's free tier. DictDrop receives no portion of any fees you pay to Groq under the Standard edition.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, DictDrop EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY OF RESULTS. DictDrop DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, OPERATE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION, OR BE FREE OF ERRORS OR DEFECTS.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL DictDrop BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR SYSTEM FAILURE, HOWEVER CAUSED AND UNDER ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE.

DICTDROP'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE STANDARD EDITION SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU ACTUALLY PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE ($69.00 USD). FOR DICTDROP PRO, DICTDROP'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID IN SUBSCRIPTION FEES OVER THE 3 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

8. Security

The Standard edition is designed so that your audio never passes through DictDrop's infrastructure. For DictDrop Pro, audio is relayed through DictDrop's servers as described in Section 2, but is not stored or logged. No software can guarantee complete security on your device. Your computer's security is your own responsibility. DictDrop is not liable for unauthorized access to your system, data breaches, malware infections, or other security incidents on your computer, whether related to the Software or not.

Windows SmartScreen may display a warning when running the installer because the Software is independently published. This is expected behavior for all indie Windows software and does not indicate that the Software is malicious.

9. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless DictDrop from and against any claims, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use or misuse of the Software, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights including Groq's terms of service.

10. Changes to Terms

DictDrop may update these Terms at any time. Updated terms will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date. Continued use of the Software after a material change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes will be announced via the support email for existing customers where reasonably practicable.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved in the competent courts of the jurisdiction where DictDrop resides. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
